ABOUT ME

I was born in Venezuela, and grew up with strong influence from my grandmother who dealt in reproductions of famous European Paintings. That was my first encounter with art. I discovered my passion for art as a young girl while drawing endlessly during my school years. At first, I thought I wanted to be a fashion designer, so my grandmother taught me how to use the sewing machine , and I ventured into making clothes for me and my friends. I soon realized that although it is fun, fashion is not my passion.
As a teenager I studied at the United World College of Hong Kong, it was there that I first developed my love of color and dove into painting.

I put together the portfolio necessary to be accepted into the the School of the Museum of Fine Arts ,Boston and Tufts University. In my training as an artist I experimented not only with painting in different mediums but also with wood carving, welding, glass fusing, and textile dying. Thanks to that experience I realized I have a passion for 3D work. During my postgraduate studies in London I experimented with kinetic sculpture and performance art, both of which I still find fascinating. Upon returning to Venezuela I taught performance art at the Armando Reveron Art Institute while I purchased the materials necessary for setting up a glass fusing studio. There I produced unique glass pieces which sold at the museum stores.

In 2012 I emigrated to Florida with my husband and children. Here I set up my glass working studio and have since been making unique custom designs for market and private collections. I have rekindled my passion for painting in the recent years, specifically for painting on wood panels, as this was the way I painted in Venezuela when I was using art as a means to heal my emotional wounds. I am currently adding fused glass to my paintings, thus uniting my passion for glass with the paintings. My inspiration comes from the landscapes I have traveled and the diverse cultures I have been fortunate to encounter. Each work is unique. I am enchanted by the inherent contradiction glass presents as a medium: while it is sharp and menacing when broken, it is soft and seductive when whole. For this reason I enjoy including it in most of my artworks.
